I’ve heard the term “life’s what you make it” for as long as I can remember. The meaning seems pretty straight forward; you have the ability to form your own experiences based on the choices you make and your reaction to circumstances that come your way, as opposed to being a passive victim of fate. Much has been written on this idea; songs by Johny Mathis in 1972, Talk Talk in 1987 and Nas in 1999, The books on this topic are too numerous to list not to mention the seminars, TED Talks and social media posts.

Why A Life Well Made? Well, I think I’ve done a decent job of applying this philosophy in my life though I can’t say it’s been overriding. There are frequent times I go with the flow or accept my situation and while I can honestly say I’m pretty happy with existence, it could be better. A Life Well Made is my shot at building the life I’ve envisioned

I’ve long admired people I’ve met with the courage to make the choice to follow their passion, talent or gifting and have been able to turn it into a profession they are proud of while contributing to the betterment of society and paying for their lifestyle and taking care of their family. Simplicity is a common characteristic of these lives and never have they built their accomplishments on the backs of others. That is to say, small is usually best but when they include others, they take great care of them.

A Life Well Made is my attempt at building a life around my passions and giftings by telling the stories of the amazing people I have the pleasure of meeting who are way ahead of me on the idea that life’s what you make it, with the hope that you will be challenged and inspired to live A Life Well Made along with us. Together we may be able to build a community around the things that we love as opposed to the cults we see created around the things they hate.
